Republic Street / Joliette

rue de la republique joliette

The former Imperial Street of Napoleon III has become the Rue de la République. The magnificent Haussmannian facades were long neglected before a gigantic rehabilitation project finally covered the area. At the heart of the Euroméditerranée project, it is one of the symbols of Marseille's future.

The Rue de la République connects the Old Port to the new ports of La Joliette with its 1.5 km length. On the Old Port side, numerous fashion stores have settled, mainly national and international chains. You can find accessible brands like H&M and Mango Outlet.

On the Joliette side, the area is undergoing a revival and is home to the new shopping center "Terrasses du Port," which, as its name suggests, offers a large terrace of 260 m2 with a breathtaking view of the port of Marseille and the sea. There are more than 160 shops and over 25 restaurants and bars. Cruise passengers only have a few meters to walk from the boat to discover a wide selection of shops for all budgets.

A little further, "les Voûtes de La Major" also houses a new shopping center located under the Cathedral of La Major. Abandoned for over 50 years, the Voûtes finally regain their splendor with nearly 7200 m² of space, including 1000 m² entirely dedicated to gastronomy. This will delight your taste buds and bring back plenty of new flavors to your kitchen. The vaults will immerse you in a shopping haven! The setting is beautiful, and you can enjoy a drink on the steps with a splendid view of the sea, Fort Saint Jean, and the MUCEM, or indulge in the nearby restaurants. Also, consider renting a Segway to explore Marseille differently!
