Hiking in La Ciotat : An Easy Hike with Stunning Panoramas

The hike starts from La Ciotat. Following the marked trail, you will pass through the Calanque du Grand Mugel. This wild calanque offers a perfect spot for a refreshing swim. Continuing on, you will reach Cap de l'Aigle, from where you'll have a panoramic view of Île Verte and the entire coastline. Don't forget to capture some photos! Retrace your steps by crossing through the Parc du Grand Mugel. Let's continue the hiking circuit to Anse de Figuerolles. Here again, the calanque boasts one of Marseille's and its region's most beautiful beaches. It would be a shame not to take a dip in its turquoise waters. Especially if you enjoy admiring marine life, as Figuerolles' seabed is particularly rich in fish, making it one of the best diving spots in Marseille. Let's continue the hike through the calanques to Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Garde. This 17th-century chapel overlooks the sea and the Marseille landscape. Finally, you'll need to head inland to reach Sémaphore du Bec de l'Aigle. It overlooks Calanque des Pierres Tombées, which belongs to the Marseille calanques and is off-limits to the public.

Explore the Villages of La Ciotat and Cassis

Finally, you'll descend to the port of La Ciotat, still following the marked trail. After a hike of over 4 hours, you'll deserve a break at one of the restaurants in Cassis with a view of the port. This small typical Provencal fishing port is very popular, and its beach is often crowded in summer. Cassis is also the starting point for a hike to Marseille. Why not plan this hike for another day and spend a few days exploring Marseille? If you prefer to explore the coast by sea rather than hiking, you can always take a cruise in the calanques. This way, you can admire the calanques of Cassis and Marseille from the water.
