Jardin du Pharo

The Pharo Garden is a must-visit in Marseille. With a magnificent view of the entrance to the Old Port, shaded lawns, and an imperial palace built by Napoleon III, the Pharo Park will delight families and photography enthusiasts.
History of the Pharo Park

During a visit to the city of Marseille in 1852, Louis Napoleon Bonaparte fell in love with the city and expressed the wish to establish a residence there by the water. In 1858, the first stone was laid on the land known as "Teste More," which overlooks the port and offers a magnificent panorama. The young prince, who had since become Napoleon III, did not have the opportunity to enjoy it as the palace remained unfinished at the time of the fall of the Empire.
The Pharo Park
This one, nestled between the sea and the breathtaking view it offers of the Old Port, is bordered by nearly six hectares of gardens named after Émile Duclaux and is a favorite spot for a stroll in Marseille. These green spaces, highly popular among families, walkers, and tourists alike, are among the most pleasant in the city.
Whether sitting on a bench facing the Old Port, or lying on the grass facing the sea, you'll love lounging around and letting your mind wander amidst the landscape, the boats leaving the port, and the history that permeates the place. The Pharo Park is a haven of peace and nature in the city, one of the most enjoyable gardens in Marseille for a leisurely walk and a children's playground. Children's play areas and vast shaded lawns delight families. Photography enthusiasts will find ample inspiration in this corner of nature.
And why not take advantage of this stunning view and magnificent park for jogging in Marseille? Have you considered bike rental? The city also provides Vélib bikes, and for those with balance, you could try Segway rental!
A monument in the park also pays tribute to sailors who died during the First World War.
Today, the site houses an international conference center with 900 seats, hosting nearly 60,000 people annually. You can visit the restaurant "Le Châlet du Pharo" located at the foot of the Palace.
