THE GARDEN OF COLLINE PUGET AND ITS MAGNIFICENT VIEW

balade colline puget parc

It is the oldest of the gardens in Marseille! Located at the top of a hill overlooking the Old Port, it is in the form of paths that wind along the hillside. Built in 1801, the work continued for more than 50 years. The last enlargements date back to the Second Empire.

In 1872, it was named "Jardin de la Colline Puget", a decision marked by the installation of a bust of Pierre Puget at the top of a column at the entrance of the garden. The steep slope promises a rather challenging ascent, punctuated by shaded benches along the way. The more athletic will appreciate running there, for others, there are plenty of other easier places to run in Marseille.

For those who have climbed the hill to its summit, the reward from this bit of nature in the city is a magnificent and breathtaking view of Marseille.

Once at the top, why not continue the ascent to the Basilique Notre Dame de La Garde, nearby. Many Marseillais have passed by countless times without suspecting its existence, don't be fooled by its discreet entrance, it would be missing out on one of these hidden treasures of Marseille's heritage. The Jardin de la Colline Puget ensures you a walk in nature but also an ideal playground for the youngest with the children's park and its swings.

If you're planning a walk in Marseille in nature, why not rent bikes? This will allow you to get around without tiring yourself too much, while enjoying the superb landscapes offered by the Phocaean city. The city also provides "les vélos", a kind of Vélib for Marseille. Finally, for the more adventurous, renting a Segway should suit you perfectly! You just need a sense of balance ;-)
