The Old Port is not just about beautiful strolls along the quays, lively drinks, or the fish market. It's also the place where a small traditional Provencal market takes place during weekends and public holidays. Marseille soaps, lavender, santons (nativity figurines), crafts, and many other specialties are waiting to be discovered or rediscovered.
Cours Honoré Estienne d'Orves is worth a visit even if one would rather imagine having an aperitif than shopping on this square with a very Italian atmosphere.
Indeed, there are more restaurants and bars than shops on the square, but a few little gems are worth the detour.
Les Arcenaulx : 25 Cours H. Estienne d'Orves. A historic and atypical place restored to honor in 1982 by Jeanne Laffitte, founder of the Cultural Association of Arcenaulx. This heritage place full of history then found a new life. Bookstore, tearoom, publishing house, restaurant, wine cellar… A place both magical and full of surprises. Like an old chest that holds many treasures.
Maison de l'Artisanat et de l'Art : A unique place, the House of Crafts and Arts was born in 1983 from the desire to stimulate and promote crafts. It has become a place for exchanges and meetings between artisans, artists, and the public. It has been the venue for numerous exhibitions, debates, conferences, screenings… etc. An atypical place not to be missed.
